Vision and Values

 Growing Stronger Together

At Otterton Church of England Primary school we believe in supporting all members of our community to enable and inspire them to grow as confident, independent learners, fully equipped and ready for life’s challenges. Much like the parable of the Mustard seed (Matthew 13:31–32) we believe that given guidance and support even the smallest can flourish and achieve.

Our Vision is built around the strong Christian beliefs of Wisdom, Dignity, Community and Hope

Our school Values

Hope, Compassion, Thankfulness, Respect, Trust and Courage.

Our Vision of Growing Stronger Together, is lived out through our interaction, compassion and support for those within our community. We have many strong links, that have been built up over time with local businesses and groups from our immediate and surrounding areas.

We often work together to provide events within our beautiful village, which allow the children, parents and staff to experience first hand what being part of an inclusive, nurturing and collaborative community is.

Budleigh Salterton Lions Club

The children have been fortunate enough to develop a relationship over time with members of this organisation, where they have been encouraged to care for the local environment by taking part in many litter picks, they have entered poster competitions to raise awareness of the importance of caring for our environment and then have been encouraged to take their ideas and innovation further by writing to influence others about the importance of recycling and picking up rubbish. We kindly received our own set of litter pickers, so now the litter picking opportunities are easily accessible for all.

The children and families of our school, have contributed yearly to the present appeal organised and run by the Lions Club. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to reflect on the ways that we can offer support to others who may need our compassion and love at times that we may not consider to be difficult ourselves. An important part of our school, is to teach all to have a loving awareness of those around you and to love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39) which is also a strong favourite on our school song list for the children! Having this awareness encourages everyone to become more aware of themselves.
The Old Vicarage

We have always thoroughly enjoyed and will continue to cherish the times we get to spend with the residents, families and staff at the Old Vicarage in Otterton. Each year the children perform their country dances in the gardens of the Vicarage for the residents and their families to enjoy. In return the children were given handmade windmills, which now feature in the school playground and allotment. The children are also invited to read and sing with the residents during the school year with many of their social events being shared with our families and attended by many within the school community.

St Michael's Church

We enjoy collaborating with our local Church at the Village Fete each Year on the Green. This is a wonderful way of getting members of the Church, School and Community together at an event that is not our usual links with the Church, within our school day.
